Winter Immune - part 5

Chiara M. Travisi - illustrated by Svenja Karstens

Winter immune - part 5

The fifth and sixth parts of the winter immune sequence continues with inversions based on the family of Sarvangasana. Compared to #sirsasana the positioning of the head is different and it exerts a different type of stimulation on the nervous system. While in Sirsasana the spine is directly engaged in the equilibrium and the practitioner is resting on the crown of the head, in #sarvangasana the support is at the base of the neck, just behind the thyroid, and on the shoulders.

In part 5, I suggest two different variations of #viparitakarani (with a box or a chair) and two variations of #sethubandhasarvangasa. Both asanas are performed with the maximum space for the throat as in sayanasana. In order to obtain such an opening, Sethu Bandha Sarvangasa can be performed both at the platform or on a bench so that the head is hanging down. However, a similar effect can be obtained by using a bolster with two or more folded blankets placed to nicely support the base of the cervical spine.
